A log sheet for “0000-0400 01 Jan” written as a rhyming poem about a drug bust: “We got word of a drug boat; I can’t be specific. With LE lights flashing, we chased it to heel, And shot out the engines with bullets of steel...” The next panel shows a federal judge holding the log in court, scowling: “...The hell is this?” as a Coast Guard officer and two handcuffed smugglers look on. Caption: “If you’re writing the New Year’s log, remember that whatever you write you might have to testify about in court.”

Happy New Year! Remember that your bad New Year’s log poetry is an official record attached to your name forever! 🎇

0000-0400 01 Jan / Underway as before in the Eastern Pacific / We got word of a drug boat; I can’t be specific. / With LE lights flashing, we chased it to heel, / And shot out the engines with bullets of steel. / We took aboard a thousand kilos of drugs, / And to the drug runners were given no hugs. / We cuffed them on deck, awaiting their trial, / But so far from land, it might be a while. / Heading back now on course nought-nought-3 true, / Our next port of call is Manzanilloo / Making 12 knots, we’d like… / …The hell is this? / If you’re writing the New Year’s log, remember that whatever you write you might have to testify about in court
