Navy Ships Named After Coasties

Jun 16, 2019 — Comic #213
An infographic under a carved wooden plaque reading “Navy Ships Named After Coast Guard Heroes,” showing three warship profiles: USS Frank Newcomb (“Went under fire to pull Navy torpedo boat to safety”), USS Douglas A. Munro (“Died evacuating 500 Marines at Guadalcanal”), and USS Quentin Walsh (“Freed 50 POWs and captured 750 Germans”).

The Quentin Walsh isn’t the first ship the Navy named after a Coastie. Why? Because we’ve been kicking ass for centuries.

EDIT: I didn’t mean this to be an exhaustive list, but fans have pointed out I’m missing USS REDNOUR (APD-102), named for Forrest Rednour, who rescued survivors of the sinking of the USS DORCHESTER, and two destroyers named after Charles Satterlee, CO of the TAMPA. Let me know if you know of more!
