Boat Names

Feb 8, 2017 — Comic #97
An officer on a cutter’s bridge deadpans radio calls: “Fishing vessel ‘Nauty by Nature,’ this is the Coast Guard,” “Fishing vessel ‘Basskicker,’” and “Fishing vessel ‘Cod Almighty.’” When she says, “Fishing vessel ‘Helmsman Right Full Rudder–’”, the helmsman obeys and the cutter lurches hard. The radio replies, “This is the Right Full Rudder, over.” She picks herself up: “May I assume, sir, that you’re prior Coast Guard? Over.”

Standing bridge watch on a Coast Guard Cutter, you learn to say ridiculous boat names with a completely straight face. Sometimes that backfires.
