The Coast Guard is a lifesaving service. We’re rescuers by nature. A lot of us joined in the wake of 9/11, or have only known a Coast Guard driven by it. A number of us also deployed to Afghanistan, met the people there, and believed in everything we fought for. The sense that we’re too far away to help, that we can’t do anything to change it, that our own service isn’t there to rescue people in need - it can be devastating. It may not seem like you need to, but please check on your brothers and sisters in arms. They may be feeling more than they think they can share right now.
