Space Force

Jun 26, 2020 — Comic #259
A Coastie tells a Space Force lieutenant, “Seems like people make fun of you more than the Coast Guard these days.” The lieutenant scoffs, “Our branch is already cooler than your branch... Enjoy being stuck on Earth. We’re headed for the stars.” A caption reads “300 Years Later...” A member of the “Orbital Guard” says, “Because the Orbital Guard started out as the Space Force, it technically predates the Galactic Navy!” A Galactic Navy officer replies, “Nice try, shuttle pirate.”

Search and rescue wasn’t a mission of the Revenue Cutter Service until around 40 years after it was created; we got voluntold for it because ships kept sinking and we had boats. Who does Space Force think is going to get told to rescue all the space tourists when no one else has rockets?
