Gauges

Feb 16, 2020 — Comic #242
An engineer in ear protection taps an engine-room gauge (“tap tap”), then taps harder (“TAP TAP”), then pulls out a red marker and redraws the needle. He tells his officer, “Uh...ma’am? All of our engine room gauges are painted on.” She asks, “Then why do the readings keep changing by 1 every hour?”

When you spend enough time on a Coast Guard cutter, you eventually give up on the idea that things are “working properly” and settle for “not literally on fire.”
